This course is dedicated to understanding and promoting the concept of independent living for all people with disabilities. Independent living stands as one of the main goal of occupational therapy services. The concept and application of independent living is complex and multifaceted, as it requires the understanding of the interaction between the person, the occupation, and the environment, in order to establish an intervention strategy that promote independence. This course focuses on adapting the environment and occupations to promote the independence of people with disabilities in their daily activities. Specifically, we will discus assistive technologies, environment assessments and modifications, low-vision rehabilitation, and community mobility and driving rehabilitation.
