Course Description
This course develops an appreciation of the social dimension of the city by considering various examples from around the world. The emphasis on the physical environment is a significant limitation within the planning and design professions. Urban planners and architects often disregard the various social dimensions of the built environment that shape users? daily lived experiences. The characteristics of individuals, social networks, social cohesion, and relationships between and within various social groups are critical to developing planning efforts that are responsive to the needs of people.
