The course examines the structure, processes, changes and problems of urban areas, including migration, poverty and welfare, economic trend, group relations, social life and how urban settings directly impacts the social interaction. The course also focuses on social groups and communities in which people act to achieve various interests and goals. The course provides sociological input for planning, design and policy-making; and introduces the basics of community development
