This course exposes students to the importance and role of market forces in the development of cities. It examines key aspects of urban economics, including land use patterns and location theory, transportation economics, housing markets, land rent theory, public sector and local government finance, the urban labor market, city size and agglomeration economies, and urban problems such as crime and poverty.
The course emphasizes the relevance of economic reasoning for urban planning and policy-making, with contextual applications to Jordanian and regional cities.
