The course explores the principles and elements of urban design and its interconnection with architecture and urban planning. The course covers current urban design approaches, strategies, and levels of intervention and their evolution in the 20th and the 21st centuries. Students will analyze urban design case studies at the site, street, district, and city scales. Also, the course will highlight the emergence of sustainability in urban design theory and practice.
