In view of IWRM (Integrated Water Resource Management) and adaptation to climate change, this CE 753 course starts by a review of water quality issues as related to wastewater treatment and reuse, and a critical understanding of environmental chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology principles as applied to wastewater treatment.
The Course is designed for students to gain capability of wastewater treatment plants DESIGN with emphasis on biological wastewater treatment technologies:
- Activated sludge and its modifications
- RBCs and trickling filters
- Pond systems
- Disinfection and Biological nutrient removal (Tertiary treatment)
The Course includes a term paper that train students to perform and report on research related to wastewater data analysis, WWTP modelling and economics and EIA. Field visit is also part of the Course activities.
