Course Description
This course introduces students to the world of natural products as a foundation for modern drug discovery. It highlights the historical and ongoing importance of plants, microbes, and marine organisms as sources of therapeutic agents. Students will learn the principles of natural product drug discovery, including the selection of biological sources, extraction and isolation techniques, structural characterization of bioactive compounds, and evaluation of their pharmacological properties. A number of unique drugs of natural origin will be highlighted during the course.
