This course is an introduction to the research process; it describes the links between research process and problem solving approach. This course focuses on the understanding of the research process and the role of the professional nurse in designing, utilizing, and conducting research. Quantitative design will be studied with emphasis on the use of research to improve nursing care. The research process and evidence-based practice are emphasized. Content includes how research contributes to the development of nursing knowledge, improves nursing practice, supports design of nursing systems, and enhances education and professional accountability. The historical evolution of nursing research is examined and current issues are analyzed. Ethical considerations and rights of human subjects are explored. It also introduces basic concepts of biostatistics as basis for the understanding of the research findings and applications.
