This course focuses on providing nursing students with clinical learning experiences at a general hospital and a psychiatric setting. In both settings, the students are going to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the theory course in the provision of care for patients suffer from psychosocial, emotional and behavioral problems. The emphasis is on providing holistic mental health nursing care to patients using the nursing process with emphasis on therapeutic communication. Integrating the concepts of team collaboration, leadership, and conflict management as well as modeling of professional and legal/ethical values are essential components in the provision of quality care to patients. Different assessment approaches will be used to achieve those outcomes including: case study presentation, psychiatric and psychosocial assessment, clinical seminar, and a written final exam.
