This course focuses on the midwifery management of normal and high-risk newborns and infants. Emphasis will be placed on the application of newborn assessment, the midwife?s role during the weeks after the birth, and follow up care for infants during their first year of life by integrating the midwifery model of care, evidence based practice, risk assessment, cultural competency, and methods of developing intuition and touch relevant to midwifery practice. By utilizing the midwifery care, current research findings and integrating the principles of reproductive health and safe motherhood, the student will provide care for newborns, infants and their families.
