Course Description
The aim of this course is to provide 3rd dental students with a basic knowledge of the clinical, histopathologic, and radiographic presentations (when applicable) of important diseases of the oral and maxillofacial regions, in addition to their pathogenesis. The course covers odontogenic cysts and tumors, bone pathology, soft tissue tumors, hematologic neoplasms, epithelial pathology, and salivary gland pathology. The theoretical component will be delivered in a combination of face-to-face lectures and pre-recorded online lectures. Each topic will have a practical session following completion of its lectures. The practical session will be delivered online in the form of PowerPoint presented clinicopathologic conference (including clinical, and/or radiographic, and/or histopathologic images of case scenarios). The students are encouraged and asked randomly to discuss each case and give a differential diagnosis. This knowledge is expected to prepare them for clinical dentistry courses in their 4th and 5th years. The course is complemented by Dent 355 Oral Pathology 1.
