This is a preclinical didactic course that introduces the basic fixed prosthodontic principles and techniques required to prepare teeth, to fabricate provisional restorations. It will also enable the student to learn the basic clinical and laboratory techniques necessary to fabricate definitive fixed prostheses. The topics covered include:
? treatment planning for crowns and bridges
? biomechanics and configurations of fixed partial dentures
? principles of tooth preparation
? preparation of full and partial coverage crowns
? provisional crowns and bridges
? impression procedures for fixed prosthodontics
? insertion and cementation procedures
? pontic and connector types
? restoration of extensively damaged teeth.
