This course is the clinical component of DENT585
The aim of this course is to introduce the final year dental student to advanced Topics in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery that go beyond the scope of the 3rd and 4th year courses in exodontia and dentoalveolar surgery. It will include information dealing with the complications of oro-facial diseases and trauma, and will discuss the treatment of these conditions. Descriptions of new techniques for the management of dental and oro-facial problems may also be included when relevant
This course will address competencies each student is required to master prior to completion of the course study. Specifically, students will be encouraged to:
1. Utilize ethical reasoning in the practice of dentistry
2. Utilize critical thinking and scientific knowledge in decision making involved in patient care
3. Assess a patients medical, psychological and social history as it relates to dental treatment
4. Communicate effectively with other professionals regarding the care of patients
