The first year clinical training in pediatric dentistry is registered as three separate courses for the purpose of registration, marking system and fees calculation, but it is a spectrum of continuous objectives that guide you through the learning curve in Clinical Pediatric Dentistry which should make the student eligible to sit the Jordanian Medical Board examination.
It is composed of five clinical training sessions per week for three semesters, each semester is 16 weeks long.
Residents spend the first year as follows:
? Eight months in the Pediatric Dentistry Clinics and Pediatric Dental Surgery section in the Hospital.
? Two months in in Pediatrics rotation in KAUH.
? One month in the Hospital for anesthetic rotation and Obtaining clinical training and a certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
? One month in the Emergency Department for management of pediatric emergencies in the hospital.
Course Objectives: (weight of 20% each)
1. Students should be able to thoroughly read recent texts pertinent to certain topics in pediatric dentistry. Emphasis should be placed on literature from about the last five years. In addition to that, students should be able to write a review of the literature on a certain topic. The goal of the assignment (literature review) is to develop an up-to-date review of the topic, which is very informative, factual, critical and interpretive of current literature, written in sound English and fully documented with references to peer-reviewed journals.
2. Students should learn basic sciences in relation to pediatric dentistry practice
3. Students should broaden their knowledge in basic pediatric dentistry-related topics
4. Students should enhance their skills in clinical pediatric dentistry, be able to obtain clinical records, and present clinical cases both orally and in hard-copy and back-up their treatment from the literature.
5. Students are expected to participate in teaching undergraduate dental students and training of more junior residents.
