Course Description
This is a clinical course dedicated to provide advanced training in endodontics for senior postgraduate students. It includes management of advanced cases both non-surgical and surgical management. Students are expected to need minor supervision and, independent decision making. Students are expected to finish a minimum number of 70 cases, with wide coverage of endodontic problems management, high technical quality treatment, the use of contemporary techniques and materials, application of evidenced based knowledge in the clinical management approach. At the beginning of the semester students should submit a self-assessment form that include a summary of the total cases they treated in the previous 2 years of the program. This summary details number of teeth treated, type of teeth, procedures performed, materials used, complications managed, based on this summary and the quality and challenges faced they have to submit summary of the week points they think should be addressed and improved ion this final year. The course coordinator will review this summary and self-assessment and provide feedback on areas for improvement. Throughout the course students has to submit and present 2 cases reports selected from the cases that they managed. · The cousre objective is to o continue development of skills relating to the complex multiple factors, which influence patient case analysis and which modify endodontic treatment requirements. Therefore at the end of the first semester of this Year 3 endodontics, students should have: 1. Demonstrated advanced knowledge in all aspects of Endodontics 2. Completed non-surgical, surgical and adjunctive therapy in advanced/complicated endodontic disease. 3. Possess advanced skills in pre-treatment workup of orthograde and retrograde endodontic cases and post-treatment management of refractory disease 4. Assessed craniofacial pain patients for specific management or referral. 5. Demonstrated and have experience in specialist skills in all aspects of Endodontics from diagnosis to specific management and outcomes. 6. Demonstrated specialist standards in all procedural work. 7. Provided specialist advice on management of medically compromised patients
