Course Description
This is an undergraduate third year students course. This practical course is given in conjunction with the theoretical part. Both courses are designed to provide the students with the sufficient knowledge necessary to communicate with the orthodontist, understand the treatment plan the rationale behind it. The students will have the opportunity to gain a thorough knowledge related to the characteristics of normal occlusion, different types of skeletal and occlusion anomalies and how to describe the malocclusion and with using different classification systems. In addition, the course will teach the students the various orthodontic records. The course allows the students to recognize different types of orthodontic appliances. A large emphasis of this course will be on the removable orthodontic appliances: definition, materials used in construction, mode of action, indications, contraindications, limitations, proper design, various active and retentive components, activation of appliances and overview of the clinical management and follow up. The practical part provides the students with the basic technical knowledge and manual skills necessary to fabricate various type of removable orthodontics appliances.
