Course Description
Overview of the theoretical background and principles of plant biotechnology as well as its practical application in research and development of new plant cultivars. Specific topics are: recombinant DNA technology, identification and isolation of genes, gene cloning, gene transfer, and plant tissue culture. Other topics to be presented and discussed are: current technical, environmental, and ethical issues related to genetically modified foods as well as the impact of plant biotechnology on agriculture and the economy.
