General Surgery Laboratory is a practical course designed to provide veterinary students with the fundamental surgical skills required for safe and effective surgical practice. The course emphasizes the principles of asepsis and antisepsis, surgical instrumentation, operating room protocols, patient preparation, tissue handling, hemostasis, wound management, and basic surgical techniques. Students receive hands-on training in instrument identification and handling, surgical knot tying, suture materials and patterns, incision and closure techniques, bandaging, and basic soft tissue surgical procedures using simulation models, cadavers, and supervised laboratory exercises. The course also introduces principles of surgical anesthesia, perioperative patient management, sterilization techniques, and postoperative care.
