This course seeks to develop the students' reading and comprehension skills by practicing basic reading strategies including previewing, skimming and scanning for details to identify the main idea, recognize the organization of ideas, find stated and unstated details, making inferences, identifying exceptions and locating references. The course also aims at teaching students to use the multiple meaning-figuring techniques, such as using context and word structure and background knowledge.
