Course Description
The course explores the interaction between form and content in relation to different text types. It aims at helping students learn how to translate texts of a specialized nature, such as legal, technical, journalistic, literary and scientific texts. Students are taught to recognize the relevant parameters involved with each text type and discern and tackle the ensuing problems and areas of difficulty in translation, as well as take into account genre, register and terminology. It will focus on the texts as whole entities and analyze discursive elements that govern them. The course also focuses on cultural and ideological issues. Texts to be translated will be selected from authentic material.
