This seminar has a number of functions: It offers the facility of a "surgery" where students can bring up issues and problems which have arisen in the lectures; it offers students the opportunity to practice analyzing and formally describing data from English and other languages; it provides a background to the term-papers, which students are required to write in the first two terms and a chance to discuss the general issues arising from them
