Chem 212 is the second in the three-term undergraduate organic chemistry lecture sequence that includes Chem 211, Chem 212, and Chem 311. It is a continuation of course 211. It emphasizes on the chemistry of alcohols, ethers, epoxides, aromatic compounds, aldehydes and ketones, amines and finally the carboxylic acids and their derivatives. It demonstrates an understanding of basic physical and chemical properties of the above mentioned functional groups. It also makes connection from basic chemical reactions to the synthesis of biologically active molecules. Demonstrate an understanding of the chemical environment and the role that organic molecules play in the natural and the synthetic medicinal drugs.
