This course covers the basics of quantum mechanics. Topics include Introduction to wave mechanics: Schrödinger's equation, wave functions, wave packets, probability amplitudes, stationary states, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. Solutions to Schrödinger's equation in one dimension: transmission and reflection at a barrier, barrier penetration, potential wells, the simple harmonic oscillator. Solving Schrodinger's equations using the matric representation, the transformation of wavefunction from coordinate space to momentum space. Solutions to Schrodinger's equation in three dimensions, solving Schrodingers equation using spherical polar coordinates, the solution of Schrodinger's equation for the hydrogen atom, understanding angular momentum from a quantum mechanics perspective.
